On the road, around the world since 1910

In March 1910, a young restaurateur, by the name of Louis Bush, refurbished an old Mack Truck chassis, painted it blue and gray and began offering sightseeing tours around the city of Washington, D.C. By 1926, Gray Line buses were familiar sights on the streets of New York, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Canada and Havana, Cuba.

After World War ll, the company was acquired by a former employee. Harry J Dooley. Dooley helped re-establish Gray Line Chicago, and soon became president. Today, he is considered to be the father of the sightseeing industry.

The advent of jet travel, with its opportunities for never-before considered gateways, expanded Gray Line’s market throughout the U.S., as well as extending it in Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. This growth in motorcoach sightseeing helped position Gray Line as the leader in the industry for decades to follow.
