Come with Ambassatours Gray Line to a magical part of Quebec - the Magdalen Islands. Your journey begins by taking the ferry in the Souris for a 5-hour cruise to these delightful islands nestled in the waves of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. Stay in Cap-aux Meules at the Auberge Madeli. "As far as the eye can stretch out from view, as though deposited there by the whims of the sea." Travel along sandy isthmuses and blue lagoons, see the red cliffs and unspoiled beauty of the islands. Discover a people of the sea: fishing ports, typical local foods, even the language of the Madelinots and their spirit has its own "salty tang".
Destinations: Quebec: Magdalen Islands, Prince Edward Island: Cavendish, Quebec: Cap-aux-Meules
This morning, we meet our tour director and travelling companions as we depart for Canada’s smallest province – Prince Edward Island. See the red sandstone cliffs, white beaches, gently sloping sand dunes and green fields of Prince Edward Island National Park. Lucy Maud Montgomery describes the scenery in her “Anne of Green Gables” books. Visit the home of “Green Gables”, a Mecca for people from around the globe. Enjoy a delicious lobster dinner (meat alternative available) before settling in for the night. (Dinner)
Briefly tour Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island’s capital city, before continuing to Souris where we will board the ferry to the magical Magdalen Islands. Relax during our five-hour journey to this unique part of Quebec. Spend the next two nights in the heart of Cap-aux-Meules. (Breakfast)
Today, take a boat tour of the calm waters of the Havre-aux-Maisons lagoon. See unique scenery enriched by the lagoon’s flora and fauna, as well as seals and many species of birds. Stop at Dune-du-Sud where red cliffs sculpted by the sea shelter this beautiful red sand beach. Don’t hesitate to explore the caves during low tide. A visit to Verrerie La Méduse is an unforgettable experience. Interpretive panels explain the glassblowing process, and from a viewing area the artisans can be seen at their craft. (Breakfast, Lunch)
During our visit to the Museum of the Sea, learn the importance of the sea to the Madelinots’ way of life through displays and artifacts. At the Aquarium of the Islands, come to observe and even touch wonderful live marine creatures and see two harp seals. Also visit La Grave - once a favourite meeting spot for fishing and commerce - is now home to many artisans and craftspeople. (Breakfast)
