Have you ever heard the adage "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" for your wedding day? According to the knot.com, it originated from an Old English rhyme which lists good-luck objects (plus a sixpence to bring prosperity) that a bride could keep on hand during her wedding day. The “something old” is often a family heirloom or jewelry; the “something new” a gift from the bride or groom or a new bottle of perfume; and the “something borrowed” has been everything from a handbag or clutch to the bride’s dress! When choosing the perfect “something blue” however, brides often look to their creative side, wearing blue shoes, jewelry or other accessories, or even adding a selection of blue flowers to their bouquet.
Being most familiar with this age-old rhyme, the Event Planners at Murphy’s on the Water always have the most perfect solution for brides in search of that “something blue”: WATER! From elegant seaside ceremonies against the setting sun, pirate-infused dinners and sails on board the Tall Ship Silva, or ceremonies and dinners in Murphy’s Restaurant & Patio, the Murphy’s team of Event Planners are always honoured to help create weddings on the water that brides, grooms and of course, their guests, will never forget.
Once such wedding was that between Taylor & Mitch Owen, a couple who tied the knot on November 10, 2018 at Murphy's Restaurant & Patio. The two kicked-off their special day by saying their “I dos” on Murphy’s bright, spacious patio which had been decorated to suit their wishes. The entire space was filled with beautiful, natural light and 180 degree views of the Halifax harbour. The light perfectly highlighted the soon-to-be newlyweds and their loyal wedding party and proved to be perfect for the wedding photographer who thrives off using natural light when creating memorable photos (more on this later).
Following the intimate ceremony, the couple invited their guests to a mix & mingle cocktail hour which included a champagne toast, before heading off for photos and to continue celebrating their big day!
Photographer Jill Roberts perfectly captured Taylor & Mitch’s special day. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Roberts is an experienced and talented wedding photographer, who loves working with couples who want to infuse creativity and adventure in their wedding photos.
