During the month of April, Halifax’s forever smiling tugboat and city ambassador quietly celebrated a milestone birthday. Known best around the world for his small screen adventures with his Big Harbour friends, and in Halifax for his welcoming smile, Theodore Too has been gracing the Halifax harbour with his presence since April of 2000-so that makes Theodore Too, 20-years old young!
For five seasons, Theodore starred alongside his ‘Big Harbour’ Friends in the popular television series “Theodore Tugboat”. The show followed the daily adventures of life in the Halifax Harbour as seen by the Harbourmaster, played by Halifax-born actor, Denny Doherty. Theodore’s tugboat friends included Hank, Emily "the Vigorous”, George "the Valiant" & Foduck the Vigilant".
In the late ‘90s, a Theodore Tugboat inspired replica (christened "Theodore Too"), was designed by Fred Allen and Marius Lengkeek and ultimately built at the Snyder Shipyard, a Nova Scotia company with a history dating back over 150 years. The life-sized replica of Theodore Tugboat was officially launched on April 19, 2000 as a promotional tool for the television series. Snyder Shipyard was also responsible for subsequent retro-fits of Theodore Too.
