Explore McNabs Island
Take your school group to McNabs Island for a day trip! Approximately 5-kilometers long by 1.5 kilometers wide, this island is situated near the mouth of Halifax Harbour. Filled with history and beautiful scenery, this island is a perfect destination for an educational outdoor excursion! Two historical highlights are the military forts that were established early in Halifax’s history as part of the Halifax Defense Complex - Fort McNab, a national historic site, and Fort Ives. Georges Island School Days
Visit Georges Island National Historic Site in the heart of Halifax Harbour, the place the Mi’kmaq called Kjipuktuk or “The Great Harbour.” Enjoy scenic views from a new perspective and immerse yourself in the rich history of Halifax. The ferry to Georges Island will operate every 40 minutes allowing students, educators, and chaperones, plenty of time to learn, explore and have fun.
